Quality

State and federal law protect educational rights.

  • Federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) mandates Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) and Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) for all students with a disability.
  • LRE must consider unique communication, related needs
  • Michigan’s 1995 Mandatory Special Education Act requires programs to develop the maximum potential of all eligible students birth to age 25 or graduation.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires barrier.

Drafting a quality, and workable education plan requires expertise. As parents or family members, we know what for our child. But getting it often requires knowledge we don’t have at hand; parents or relatives may know what they want but have no idea how to obtain the desired educational services. If you are a parent, start by contacting your Intermediate School District. If that doesn’t provide the help you need, or you seek general information for you own or a friend or relative’s educational plans, contact one of the following agencies.
